Sunday, November 9
Sunday was an early morning after all and despite our early night in, we were SO NOT HAPPY when our alarms went off at 5:40 this morning. But we finally made it out of bed, packed up our stuff, called a cab, and then headed to the North train station.
With a cold wait for the train we finally made it on board where we immediately fell asleep until arriving in Koeln. We took a quick detour in Koeln back to the beautiful cathedral and to Starbucks before running to our train! We made it with 4 minutes to spare and then hopped on for a 5 hour ride to Berlin.
Shockingly I got some work done (and wrote my blog posts so you didn’t have to wait until Thursday to read about my weekend) which was great since Katie is staying in Berlin with me until Monday afternoon! We also sat next to this really nice man who complimented my German and the level of German I was reading before telling Katie and me alot of cool information about Berlin that I didn’t even know. I turns out he’s a math professor at the Technical University in Berlin but also teaches classes every now and then in United States. (His last one was at Cornell. How cool!?)
Anyway, we finally made it back to Berlin where we took the U-bahn back to my apartment (only for Katie to say "We have to take another one?) and started to plan for the evening. We decided on the Pergamon Museum where we saw alot of cool art history stuff including the Ischtar Gate. It was so fun to do something different in Berlin and to do something that Katie enjoyed so much...you should have heard her squealling at the Gate.
We trekked back to my part of town stopping here and there to show Katie some of the highlights and had a nice dinner on Oranienstrasse before we headed back to refresh my email every 10 seconds (not that we hadn't been doing that ALL DAY LONG waiting for the slate)! But, it FINALLY came bearing incredibly good news and we snuggled up in bed and watched some good ol' American television.
